There are many places and spaces in our society where deep healing is needed. We cannot always protect our children from the hurts they will experience but it is our duty to lead them to tools for healing themselves and listen to the hurts of others with compassion. My goal is to promote the cultivation a brave spaces where students can accept accountability because the willingness to make mistakes is where innovation, learning and growth thrive. This is why I work to center Social & Emotional Learning in the classroom.

There is healing power when children are given space to know who they are and express themselves, to articulate what they feel, think and experience and to learn to listen deeply to the experiences of others. I believe the true goal of education can be the healing of inequities and the cultivation of belonging for all. This is the essential precursor and consistent through line to the vulnerability required for learning to take place.

I have spent 12 years in education in Los Angeles, CA and most recently served as the Director of SEL for a progressive Charter Community where I have had the gift of seeing the power of student voice. I recently moved with my family to Minneapolis, MN and am very excited to continue this work and for the learning potential of this writing project. This project gives space for students to reflect individually and engage in connecting conversations with each other and that is where the potential for learning and healing live.
